One of the classic styles from Birks, a vintage domed, bell-shaped, sterling silver ring box. It is monogram free, but with the Birks double B on the top, the front just above the closure would be the best place for an initial or monogram. It has a nice solid feel/weight in the palm of the hand. Use it to present an engagement ring (a lovely keepsake) or keep it on your bedside table to display and store any of your favorite rings.
From the late 1800's into the mid of the 20th century, when an engagement ring was purchased at a luxury jewelry store like Tiffany, Birks and others, a sterling silver ring box was included. These petite silver treasures came in many shapes and sizes: rectangles, squares, rounds, ovals, hexagons and hearts.
Dimensions & Details
- The box is sterling silver.
- The outside dimensions are: the base diameter is just under 2 inches tapering to a diameter of just under 1 1/2 inches, the height is a little over 1 1/2 inches.
Period & Hallmarks
- Stamped Sterling and Birks, on the bottom of the box.
- The outside is in good condition. It is vintage and has surface scratches (visible through magnification) that one would expect to see on a piece of this age. The inside of the ring is lined in black velvet. There is minimal wear to the ring pad. The hinge is in good condition. We like to leave some of the patina that has developed over time. We can have it polished upon request.
