This is truly a statement piece. An antique gold ring, late 19th century, with the image of Neptune hand-carved into the center of this sparkling purple amethyst. It has all the makings of a one-of-a kind, statement cocktail ring.
In Roman mythology, Neptune was the god of the sea. As the story goes, the Cyclopes gave Neptune the magic trident in gratitude for the role Neptune played in setting the one-eyed monster free. The magic trident allowed Neptune to control large bodies of water at will. He is depicted with the magic trident in his hand as he rides the waves that have been carved into this lovely purple jewel. The amethyst is set into an elaborate 14kt gold setting, made by a jeweler who was clearly as much of an artist as a craftsman.
