So lucky to have found this 19th century, heart-shaped padlock (working) clasp pendant in 9ct yellow gold. It is becoming harder to find the larger version in yellow gold rather than rose.

These heart-shaped padlocks were popular during the 19th c. and into the early 20th c. Part of the sentimental jewelry trend, heart-shaped lockets were often gifted as a token of love. They served two purposes, one decorative, as a charm or pendant. Or two, it opens and closes joining the two ends of a chain (bracelet/necklace) together.

  • It measures 1" or 25.4mm by .7" or 17.9mm. 
  • Weight: 3.1 grams.

  • Late 19th c./Early 20thc. No date mark.
  • English hallmarks for Birmingham and 9ct gold.
  • Maker's Mark: LC.

Condition

  • The clasp opens and closes securely.
  • The pendant/clasp is in good antique condition, with general wear, surface scratches and patina that one would expect in a piece of this age.
