This one of the prettiest pieces we have seen in a while, a delicate combination of shades of pale in cream, white and pink. This Victorian gold brooch is a lacing together of the three letters (LAS). Can you see it? It is set throughout with pearls ranging in hue from silver to cream to pink, alongside glittering rose cut diamonds. Rose cut diamonds, cut prior to the introduction of electricity, were cut to shine and glimmer under candlelight. Their soft sparkle perfectly compliments the luster of the antique pearls.
It doesn't really matter whether your initials are LAS or not. Although technically a cipher, this brooch is more work of art than artful combination of letters. Simply beautiful!
If you'd like to wear this as a pendant as well, please contact us and we can discuss a minor modification to customize it for you.
Dimensions & Details
- The brooch is set in 15 ct gold (tested). The seed pearls are possibly natural, rather than cultured, due to the date of the piece, but this has not been lab verified. The diamonds are rose cut.
- The brooch is approximately 1.5 inches or 38 mm tall by a little over 1 inch or 28 mm wide.
Period & Hallmarks
- Late 19th c.
- The piece is in good condition for its age. There are a couple of spots of solder to the back of the piece (they do not show through to the front). The piece was at some point, earlier in its history, made into a brooch. The brooch attachment is in 10 ct rose gold (tested) and the overall piece is in 15 ct yellow gold (tested). A minor repair has been made to the brooch pin catch. The brooch mechanism is strong. A few of the pearls have minor crazing.
