Antique & Modern: Paste Buckle and Alligator Cuff Bracelet in Blush Glaze
There's something about this pairing that we love. The buckle's slightly distressed facade (that lovely darkening of the silver) against the modern blush colored alligator gives this cuff a different look from the others in the collection.
We believe it was originally a shoe buckle/slide or similar decoration from as early as the beginning of the 20th century, to as late as the Art Deco period. It has a beautiful geometric pattern, with three marquise shapes inside of a rectangular border.
Dimensions & Details
- The total length is just under 7.5 inches. The inside circumference when closed is 6.5 inches and it is 1.5 inches wide. It can be worn loosely like a bangle or in a more fitted fashion i.e. works well on a variety of wrists, but it would be a good idea to measure prior to purchasing. The buckle is 1.9 inches by a little over 1.4 inches.
- The cuff is made from high-quality, genuine American alligator in a blush glaze. It is comprised of paste or possibly rhinestones. The buckle is 2.2 inches by 1.8.
Period & Hallmarks
- Early 20th c.
- The cuff is new. The original fittings have been replaced and slides have been custom made in sterling silver to accommodate the alligator cuff. The paste buckle is in fair to good condition because of the following: a few of the pastes have darkened and one of the small stones is missing (difficult to tell without magnification). The overall buckle still has a lot of sparkle.
