Antique & Modern: Georgian Paste Buckle and Alligator Cuff Bracelet in Versailles Blue
We've named this blue in honor of a French royal who was famously fond of paste - Marie Antoinette. Marie Antoinette not only loved this color (you can see her wearing it in several of her portraits), but she also loved sparkling jewels. She wore her paste jewelry mixed in with her diamonds and other precious stones.
These buckles are English, but are from approximately the same period of time as Marie Antoinette's reign, or just after. The stones are set in silver. The chape and tines are made of steel and the cushion cut pastes have black dots at the base of the stones, characteristics of pieces from this period. The cuff is a one-of-a-kind, custom made piece.
